Chaplain’s Message:
As members of the Knights of Columbus, should you have any grudges against members of your family, try and clear them up. Holding grudges among family members, friends, or with fellow co-workers is a waste of time and energy. Life is too short. Recent deaths in my family have brought this thought to the surface. If your family is not at peace right now, do something about it.

Grand Knight Report:
  • 4th degree ceremony coming up May 18.  Don has forms to apply. From Father John, 4th degree ceremony is the BEST ceremony ever. He wishes he would have done it earlier.
  • GK Tim received a call from Arlene Tenner regarding Roadside Cleanup set for Saturday, April 13 from 1-3 PM. Meet in the corner of the BP station by Ready Randy’s.

Membership
  • Welcome Chris for attending his first meeting.
  • Rob Lampert ready to join. Maybe schedule another exemplification when we have 1 or 2 more possible members.
  • Father will talk to Jacob.

Trustee Report   none

4th Degree Report  none

Insurance Agent
Shawn, being from the farm, remembers that, at this time of the year, it was time to prep for the planting season. Same concept with your finances. You must have a prepping time for planting season so that your investments grow. Set an appointment with me to review your finances and needs analysis.

District Deputy (Mark)
  • Could not attend. Phil shared info regarding Tootsie Roll drive in August.

Old Business   None

New Business
  • IC 8th grade trip:  Going to Madelline Island/Visitor’s Center near Ashland. Madelline Island has the oldest catholic church in the state. Group is staying at Crossroads Camp. Motion by Don/Second by Jeff to donate money to pay for Father’s registration fee/expenses for the camp. Passed.
  • In the past, KC’s have sponsored 2 golf teams for the season at NR Golf Course. Motion by Don/Second by Jared to sponsor 2 teams once again. Passed.
  • KCs do budget donations to the EFC camp and donation to the roadside cleanup. Because already in the budget, our group does not need to vote. Doug will once again, write one check for both donations.
  • Rich: thank everyone for fish fry.  We had some folks who went out of their way to volunteer. Would like to give them something.  Motion by Rich/second by Mark to donate addition money. Motion failed for lack of majority.
  • From Dennis: Options on 8 installed an ultrasound machine. Training a special operator cost them an additional money. Discussion revealed that the KCs already have donated for the machine. Training this special operator entails an unexpected expense and that is what this motion would entail > donation to help in the training of the special operator.  Motion by Don/second by Dennis to donate additional funds for this cause. Motion passed.
  • From Shawn Fox:  Family Service Day at St. Mary’s - a picnic/luncheon for the volunteers. Women’s Prayer Group organizes kids groups (and adults) to provide community service, i.e., cleaning up cemetery, services in schools, cleaning up at Deerfield, etc.  Shawn/Don seconded to donate money for this luncheon. Passed.

Communication
  • Family of the Month:  Terry and Kim Palmer
  • Knight of the Month:   Troy Schmidt

Lecturer’s Reflections:
Just finished our Lenten season. Be grateful for what we have done - what we are doing. Be thankful for making some promises and doing some things differently. If it worked for you, why not continue?  It doesn’t have to end with Easter Sunday.  Can still do the same things. Live your best life and be worthy of what’s to come.

Grand Knight
  • 2024 Fish Fry totals:  430 meals on March 8.  350 on March 22.
  • Mike has trailer to load panels tonight. Bringing it to Dennis’ farm.
  • State convention coming up. Need raffle tickets handed in. Get them to Jeff.
Lee Brown is our delegate.  Al attending as well.

  • Al Neumann
  • Mark Casey to have surgery for new knee
  • Louise Debruzzi
  • Father John with brother passing
  • Father Brinkman for being late to meeting. (Explained that he had to park a distance away and Somerset citizens stopped him to talk while walking).

Lecturer’s reflections
Reflection taken from the book: Beautiful Eucharist.  By Matthew Kelly.
Eucharist is the body of Jesus. Only two times did the Disciples flee from Jesus. One, at his death and two, when Jesus initially gave them Eucharist saying, “I am the bread of life, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man, and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” Disciples who questioned this did leave his following. But the true followers, after discussing it, were believers. Question: Are we going to flee from Jesus or remain at his side? Are we going to partake in the Eucharist, especially during this Lenten season? A quote from the book, “At Mass on Sunday, the homily could be a language I don’t understand, the music could be a complete train wreck, there could be kids running up and down the aisle screaming at the top of their lungs and throwing crayons and eating snacks, OR, eating crayons and throwing snacks, but that is o.k. because the Eucharist is still present in that service.”  Keep this in mind as we continue to receive the Body of Jesus.

Financial plan and things you are doing to protect your family, provide for them in the future. Are we doing things the right way – using your money the right way. Using KC retirement plan, life insurance is a good way to do that. Those dollars are never going to be used against your catholic belief. Also, still time to contribute to your IRA’s or Roth accounts for 2023. Perhaps, make a resolution to meet with me
(Shawn Fox) this year.
